How to Get Health Insurance

If you are concerned about health insurance and want to see if there are ways to get yourself covered, there are a few options. Traditionally there are three ways to get health insurance if you aren’t covered currently. Keep in mind that if you are unable to obtain insurance through these means that University Cancer Centers are still here for you. Our primary concern in your health and well-being.
For those seeking coverage – here are your options.

Employer Coverage

You can seek health insurance through an employer, union or other job-related source. Lost your job? The government allows you to see if you are eligible for COBRA. COBRA is a law for individuals who have lost their job within the last 60 days. COBRA will allow you to keep your insurance for 18 months or longer, depending on the situation, and allows you to pay the full cost of your insurance. Check with your local Chamber of Commerce for details regarding COBRA for small business owners and those who are self-employed. You may be eligible for discounted rates.

Personal or Family Coverage

Purchase your own. Speak to an insurance broker or visit sites like eHealth Insurance or Healthcare.gov. Depending on your state you may be eligible for different rights or rate plans. Purchasing insurance before developing a pre-existing condition can help you get the treatment you need. Research laws like HIPAA to find out how you are protected.

State and Federal Health Care Programs. Based on your age, income or pre-existing disability you may be eligible for health care. The Foundation for Health Coverage Education can help you determine what programs are available.

At University Cancer Centers rest assured we will not turn you away. We will work with you to determine if there is any charity care or sliding scale programs that can help.
